Mandeep Singh Sidhu is the name of a versatile and multi-talented personality. He is the grandson of an army officer and the son of a gazetted officer of the Postal Department. He is the first historian of Punjabi cinema, whose book 'Punjabi Cinema Da Sachitra Ithias 1935-1985 (Part One) has been published and the second is ready to be published. He is also a columnist, writer, journalist and film critic of prestigious Punjabi Newspapers and Magazines, whose research is also recognized by universities and many of his students have done PhD from him and are doing so.
He has a vast collection of almost lost material related to Punjabi films such as film booklets, lobby cards, posters, stills, pre-partition film magazines, record catalogues, LPs, EPs, vinyl records, audio-video cassettes, VCDs, DVDs, etc., which he has collected since 1990 (Very Young Age) from the villages and cities of Punjab, as well as from archives and music collections in Lahore, Calcutta, Pune, Kanpur, Jaipur, Delhi, etc., as well as England, America, Canada, etc.
Despite belonging to a humble Jatt Sikh Farmer family, he never tried to live an easy life by achieving any high status. Rather, he adopted the rocky and difficult path of preserving folk heritage and achieved success, bringing glory to Punjab and Punjabiyat.
He has so far been honored with the 'Punjab Rafi Rattan Award' (2019), 'Sahit Rattan Award' (2023), 'Virsa Punjab Pride Award' (2025) and the 'Award of Honor' (2025) by Punjabi University, Patiala.
